Specializations[]
Specializations are sub-class choices that further define and customize characters in Dragon Age II. Unlike Dragon Age: Origins, you don't need to unlock them, but instead you will receive one specialization point at level 7 and another at level 14, giving you 2 specializations.

Companion specific[]
Companion | Specialization | Description |
---|---|---|
Anders | It divides into a branch similar to the Spirit Healer specialization tree and a branch which resembles the Reaver specialization tree, only adapted for a mage. | |
Aveline | It resembles the Defender talent tree. | |
Fenris | Its emphasis on spirit damage makes it similar to the Templar specialization tree, but it also resembles the Spirit Warrior specialization from Awakening. | |
Isabela | It is a variation of the Duelist specialization. | |
Merrill | It serves as a hybrid between the Blood Mage and Keeper specializations from Origins and Awakening. | |
Sebastian | It combines aspects of the Shadow and Archery talent trees. | |
Tallis | It shares principles with the Subterfuge talent tree and the Assassin specialization tree. | |
Varric | It functions as a hybrid between the Archery and Specialist talent trees. |
Bethany and Carver do not gain a specialization during Act 1. After The Deep Roads Expedition, Bethany will gain the Force Mage specialization and Carver will gain the Templar specialization.
Trivia[]
- Three unobtainable specializations named Archmage, Bard, and Juggernaut, were not implemented or removed from the game, but three ID codes for "manuals" teaching those specializations can still be accessed with console addons like additem. There is no effect for "learning" these tomes, however.
